SINOPSIS

Dos amigos heterosexuales que trabajan juntos como deshollinadores empiezan a replantearse sus certezas alrededor de su sexualidad a raíz de dos sucesos que sacuden sus vidas. Uno le cuenta a otro que, a pesar de no considerarse gay, ha tenido un encuentro sexual casual con otro hombre. Su amigo, por su parte, lleva tiempo sintiéndose mujer en unos sueños recurrentes en los que es seducida por David Bowie. Sacar a la luz estos secretos pondrá a prueba su amistad, sus vidas familiares y su propia identidad.

Dag Johan Haugerud comienza ‘Sex‘, la primera película de la trilogía «Sex, Dreams, Love» con una escena inicial para recordar: dos compañeros de trabajo discutiendo un sueño sobre David Bowie y la revelación de que uno se acostó con un hombre a pesar de ser heterosexual. En una película que comienza con una gran cantidad de risas incómodas y dramas familiares las vidas de ambos colegas comienzan a parecer aún más reales, como lo demuestran las conmovedoras conversaciones sobre el matrimonio, la vida y el amor, mientras nos muestra cómo un hombre enfrenta su aventura a pesar de no originalmente considerándolo como tal. ‘Sex’ es una película escrita de manera refrescante, que ofrece humor natural y risas al público en lugar de buscar producir frases ingeniosas. En una película con mucho ingenio escrito, la cámara a veces parece menos decidida, a menudo toma panorámicas y se mueve sin consecuencias. Las selecciones de tomas de calles concurridas no añaden ni quitan la narrativa que se nos presenta. En general, la película es un viaje agradable y nos deja preguntándonos adónde nos llevará la próxima entrega, ‘Love’, después de su estreno en el Festival de Cine de Venecia.

Dag Johan Haugerud begins ‘Sex‘, the first installment of the «Sex, Dreams, Love» trilogy with an opening scene to remember: two coworkers discussing a dream about David Bowie, and the reveal that one slept with a man despite being heterosexual. In a movie that begins with a plenitude of awkward laughs, both colleagues’ family drama’s and lives begin to seem all the more real, evidenced by touching conversations on marriage, life and love, while showing us how one man deals with his affair despite not originally considering it as one. ‘Sex’ is a refreshingly written movie, delivering natural humor and audience laughter instead of searching to produce one-liners. In a film with a lot of written ingenuity, the camera sometimes seems less purposeful, often panning and moving inconsequentially. Shot selections of busy streets don’t quite add or take away from the narrative being presented to us. Overall, the film is an enjoyable ride, and leaves us wondering where the next installment, ‘Love’, will take us after premiering in the Venice Film Festival.
